Attachment: the most important and influential developmental task a child will ever achieve
Hello, I'm Steena Facey and if you are interested in giving your child the strongest foundation for a happy, healthy and bright future then you've come to the right place because so am I! I've worked with children for more than 17 years, starting with a move from my native England to be a nanny for boisterous year-old triplets. Mary Poppins, eat your heart out!
While obtaining my BA in psychology at FAU I became interested in child development and interned at a nursery and pre-school which opened my eyes to some of the troubling problems small children were having. This interest continued as I studied for my Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work at UT Austin and worked with gang-affiliated youth and adolescents involved in the justice system, but it wasn't until I took a class in Attachment Theory that I finally felt that I had some real answers regarding the link between our earliest years and later issues.
The more I studied Attachment Theory, the more my excitement and despair grew – this theory was so crucial to anyone who has any ongoing involvement in a child's life, yet so few people knew about it. I began teaching the theory to teen parents in the Juvenile Probation Department where I work and became heartened by how receptive these young parents were to it, and how it changed their perspectives on parenting. I decided that I needed to do more - to bring this information to as many people as I could reach and Applied Attachment was born!
Evidence supporting the tenets of Attachment Theory is published frequently and I read and research constantly to ensure that I am teaching the most current information on Attachment Theory and the more I study, the more confident I am that Attachment Theory holds the key to alleviating a multitude of problems – mental health issues, self-esteems issues, behavioral issues, criminal behavior and problems arising in interpersonal relationships. I am incredibly grateful that I discovered this theory before I had my twin terrors and look forward to bringing you this information too.
If you are a parent, a soon-to-be parent, a professional working with children, a mental health professional or even an adult simply wanting to examine and improve your romantic relationships, then you will benefit from knowledge of Attachment Theory! I am based in Austin, Texas, but I am available to travel and offer consultations via Skype, email and phone. Contact me to learn more about this life-changing theory. When I am not fantasizing about making the world a better place one child at a time, I love to travel, read, bake and (on occasion) do stand-up comedy. I look forward to bringing Attachment Theory to you, your family or your organization.
